National Day in Qatar is a surreal experience - the parade due to start at 7am, began at 8:45am once the Amir decided to arrive. The traffic is at a standstill virtually all day. The balloons due for the balloon release at 8pm were held in customs. The journey home in a bouncing bus being squirted with shaving foam and funny string as cars passed with people sitting on the roofs, and finally a most spectacular firework display that started only 10 minutes late. A day never to be forgotten.
