U'15 against QEGS

Our season continues to be plagued by injury, but it was good to have Ben Rothery back in action up front. QEGs played good football in the first half but Hulme created their fair share of chances, especially from set pieces. Most notably, Ben Rothery’s thundering header from a corner was just cleared off the line. The breakthrough came after QEGs cleared a Hulme corner downfield which was seized upon by their centre forward whose pace took him away from the two remaining defenders and whose composure saw him beat goalkeeper Chris Claydon. It was all to play for after half time as Hulme had their tails up and mounted the pressure. Ten minutes into the second half, Sam Clark fired a shot just over the bar which could have brought us back level and changed the course of the game. However, QEGs dealt us a sucker punch with a soft second goal, followed by a much more worthy third from an excellent free kick. Hulme fought back with character thanks to Captain Sam Clark who fired home spectacularly. Alex Jackson then hit the post as Hulme tried to get back into contention but two more QEGs goals sealed their victory. Although they were well deserving of the win, the final result of 5-1 rather flattered QEGs. Lewis Taylor’s gritty performance was narrowly eclipsed by Sam Flanaghan who was Man of the Match for his effective man marking and trademark tackling.

U'16s lose out to Trinity

Hulme 1 Trinity High 2
The first half of this match began where our last match against North Chadderton ended. We gave the ball away cheaply and didn’t close down with due urgency, allowing Trinity to play free flowing football with extended periods of possession. By half time Trinity were dominant and two goals ahead. A different Hulme team appeared for the second half, not in personnel but in attitude and aspiration. Their strong start to the second half gave them the inspiration to transform the match into a fierce contest. Robert Shaw’s creativity in midfield was narrowly eclipsed by Man of the Match Luke Butler’s determination not to concede defeat. With a quarter of the game remaining Hulme’s efforts were rewarded thanks to an excellent free kick from Captain Danny Mills. Having got his team back into the game, the referee felt that Daniel made an intentionally dangerous challenge on the keeper and was sent off. Despite their disbelief at this decision, Hulme valiantly continued to look for an equaliser with ten men, creating a number of chances but to no avail - Trinity had done enough damage in the first half.
