After the poor training session on Tuesday night, allot of the lads had to turn their performances' around if we wanted to pull a result out at MGS. Wednesday afternoon everyone showed they wanted this result, and most of all wanted to perform.
Many rumours were being thrown around all week mentioning that we were playing their 2nd XI, due to the first team having a cup game mid week, but all we were concerned about was getting a result.
Both teams started the game very well, keeping the ball and showing good possession. Manchester Grammar had the first chances of the game but Hulme's defence fended off there opportunities, with notable performances from Jordan Marsh.
After around 25 minutes into the first half, MGS scored from an excellent long ball over the top which one of MGS' strikers latched onto and chipped over Adam Myers. 1-0 MGS.
After the first goal, the game begun to drop off, and slow down, Hulme becoming frustrated by the good possession of MGS, but after a while Hulme got back into the game and made some good chances through Micheal Tomlinson and Danny Orr with a good snap shot from James Summers.
Hulme began to start battling and pressed on more but after a lapse in defence Danny Harrop (apparently) brought down their centre forward down in the boxed and they were evidently awarded a penalty which they converted. 2-0 MGS and half time loomed.
During the half time break Mr Marshall gave the lads some words of wisdom and psyched us into the 2nd half.
We started the half well making some good runs and began to break the MGS defence down very well. James Summers and Micheal Tomlinson making the Manchester Grammar goalkeeper make some outstanding saves, but the time would eventually come when Hulme would score.
after breaking down one of MGS' attacks, Hulme was able to counter attack down Manchester's right wing through Jamie Paul and James Summers which Summers was able to slot accross to which Danny Harrop (believe it or not) netted home after a superb full length pitch run from centre back. 2-1 MGS
Hulme felt they were back in the game and stepped up their game dramatically. after a few more chance created MGS' goalkeeper was able to tip an effort round the post to which Hulme was awarded a corner. James Summers whipped it in and Danny Harrop (yes him again) powered home a header to bring the game level. From then on MGS began to attack very well but some great defending from Jordan Marsh and Jake Crawley made it very difficult for them to take the lead.
Captains man of the match - Jordan Marsh
Notable performances - Micheal Tomlinson, Danny Orr, James Summers and Jamie Paul
